Another day

Our strong boy (filled in ickiness with black so you don't have to look at blood)

Elijah's heart rate and temp finally dropped last night after they gave him some rhythm medication. He had all the nurses and doctors (and mom and dad) on their toes for quite a while! Little stinker. Dan and I got some sleep (as much sleep as you can get with a bar running down your back and a door banging constantly five feet from your head). Through the night Elijah had another high temp/high heart rate episode and they again had to administer the rhythm medication to get things under control.

Since we've been here at 7:00, his heart has been beating all on it's own at an awesome rhythm with NO help from the pacemaker. This is good news! We're praying for no more scary episodes today and for his little body to rest and get used to his new anatomy. His little body is adjusting to the major work that was done to it yesterday.

He could also stand to pee a bit more and he has a bit of air trapped outside his right lung that they are trying to drain with his chest tubes.

They want to keep him sedated and resting for the next day or two so his little body can heal. All in all, he's doing well. He is an awesome boy.

I forgot to mention yesterday that Dr. Moga WAS able to use a bovine valve, which is very good news!

We are overwhelmed by the amount of prayer and love that has been sent our way. Thank you so much!

Do you see the blue number?!? THOSE ARE HIS O2 SATS! We have never seen a number that high! I actually cried when I first saw that on the screen.

Where's Dan? (Thank you so much for the balloons, Amy, Mitch and Wilson! They brightened our day and have helped to add character to this boring old ICU room.)

I cried when I saw the O2 sats too! It's so awesome!

I had a dream last night that Elijah had his surgery. They closed up his chest and within moments he was running around like a wild-child! It was an amazing dream.

Love you all! It's so nice to hear good news...

Elijah IS going to be a new man when he's all healed...hope you've bought new running shoes!
You know...a few more days of rest will only make it that much easier on his little body when they wake him up. Congrats on the bovine valve....I can't wait for ours!!!
Hang in there you guys...
and I hope it's just a boring old day in the ICU...

You guys better save up your strength because things are going to change around your house. With stats like that, he's going to be moving and shaking very soon. I can't wait to hear about how he made you crazy because he was trying to climb your bookshelves or launch himself off the couch or whatever sometime soon.
our love & hugs,

So glad to hear things are better this morning. It breaks my heart to see that sweet little man hooked up to so many machines--prayers for a FAST recovery so Elijah can get back to his old self!

The 98 was the first number I looked at and so glad to see. Elijah also looks really good. Take care of yourselves!

Megan,

I am so happy to hear that sweet Elijah's heart has sychronized it's beats finally! I know how scary that is...Emma's did the same thing after her first repair.

And a bovine valve....AWESOME! Between Elijah and Emma we could start our own barnyard! :) Emma got a pig valve! ha! (Medical technology simply amazes me....I am so grateful for all that they can do these days to help our little heart kids.)

Seeing your little man's picture melted my heart....I hate to see him like that, but know he's on the road to recovery! Hang in there, I know it's still tough....but I'm thinking and praying for all of you as we sit here in the hospital ourselves.

Give Elijah a little smooch from his Kissy Face heart friend! ;)

Lots of Love & Prayers,

Wendy, Don (& Emma, too!)

So glad to hear that things are settling odwn with Elijah. I'm sure his body's going to need the rest he can get while being sedated. Hoping things continue to progress in the right direction. And 98% is awesome!

Oh I just hate to see Elijah like that, but I know he is on the road to recovery. He does look good for just having surgery yesterday. And by the way...I cried when I saw Arianna's sats after her surgery. I think we all do! I'm so happy his rhythm is back to normal. Arianna had the rhythm issue for about 4 days and they even thought about a permanent pacemaker. After a powerful prayer and convicting the devil she was beating all on her own. Sometimes we have to hand our situations totally over to God and let HIM work it out!

I hope you guys get some rest while Elijah is sedated cause once he's awake there will be no stopping him!

Hugs,
Vanessa

I have been checking on you guys constantly.....it was so wonderful to hear your news this morning. 98?!!! That is awesome. After the past couple of weeks, you guys so deserve him to recover so quickly. And to hear "better than I could have expected"?! It does not get much better than that! Your family is so blessed. I agree with the others. Get all the rest you can now (I know hospital sleep is not that good) because you will need it when he comes home. Sam and Eli cannot wait to meet him!!

Love,
the Yoders

This is great news. Those numbers do look great! I know you are puffy after heart surgery, but wow those are some chunky thighs. I think one of Elijah's thighs equals two of Harrison's. He looks so cute lying there. Just makes you want to squeeze him.

Scarey to see Eli all hooked up to so many things... I was a bit taken aback... Just makes me realise how serious all this has been... He is one amazing baby... And you two are amazing parents...Must be so hard for you to not be able to pick him up and just hold him... I hope you manage to get some rest so you can stay strong...
I hope this new day brings positive reports and no more episodes...
Thinking of you constantly at work yesterday Eli... and no doubt will do again today... Be a strong lil man so mummy and daddy can take you home very very soon...

Thanks for posting the update and pictures of your little guy. Sometimes recovery can have lots of ups and downs. We are glad to hear that his rhythm is under control and that he is not using his pacemaker. Great news on the bovine valve. I hope he has had a restful and healing day. We are thinking of him and sending well wishes from Kansas City.
