So long PICU!

We are on the 3rd floor!! Dr. G didn't see a need for a chest tube, so we're going to stay on top of the diuretics so he keeps peeing like mad. He's being weaned off of the MR-850 but is still on it since his sats drop into the 80s when it's turned off. He's off all medications (except diuretics) and I personally think he's going through drug withdrawals. He has hardly slept at all since 4:00 this morning and his pupils are bigger than normal and he's suddenly very fussy. I asked the nurse about this and she poo-pooed it and said it was just because he was so stimulated in the PICU. Hmmmmm, we'll see.

We're getting situated in our new room right now, listening to our 1,209th round of Veggie Tales and listening to Elijah fuss. I'll post pics later, when things are a bit more happy.

Our man is doing great! Five days after open heart surgery and we're out of intensive care!! Ok, more later....

Woo-Hoo!!!! Yay!!!! I am so proud!!! So, now do you guys get to stay with the little man in his room? I sure hope so...

I am sure that if you think he is having withdrawals, he is...I remember the nurses telling me that Micah was not having withdrawals after his surgery, and I know they were wrong...

Way to go on the transition...you are that much closer to home now...

Yay!!!

Lots of love,
Samantha

PS - That sure is a lot of exclamation points. Can you tell that we are excited?

That is awesome! Go with your gut on the withdraw idea. H had withdraws from methadone and we all thought they were more seizures. They put him back on the "candy" and slowly took it away. He was much much better!!!

Good luck on the 3rd floor. At least you get a lot more privacy, closet space, and a nice little sofa bed. Take Elijah on a stroll to the fish tank. Soon Dr. Moga will be ready for his photo shoot!

We are still praying for peace and pee for E.

Our first stay at Stanford...they didn't tell us about the signs of drug withdrawals..the 2nd time...they just put him on the weining schedule without us asking..BUT...if he has big pupils and he's fussy...he's having withdrawals. YOU get on the floor and start kicking and screaming or you'll have a cranky man on your hands! (nothing could console Isaac!)
Our feelings are ALWAYS right...you tell them Megan!
I'm glad that you made if off the ICU floor...you'll be home in a few days!
Love,
Kathy

I am so glad Elijah is doing so well. You guys made it to step down in no time.
Echoing the other comments...push hard for the weaning schedule. If you think he is withdrawing, he likely is. For some reason the docs and nurses always say no until they are really suffering.

So much has happened! I am so glad Elijah is doing well and has moved to the 3rd floor. He is a strong cutie pie. Take care of yourselves. XO

Great to see you guys and to hear that Eli has officially moved to 3rd floor. Hopefully all three of you can get some much needed quality sleep in this new quieter location.

The RA

Such wonderful news! We are so happy for you. Someone asked in an earlier comment -- I really hope you get to stay in Elijah's room now.

Wilson also had trouble keeping his sats up after his surgery. He had a cannula at least part of the time right up until he went home. But when we were back in the hospital 5 days later (due to an unexplained fever, nothing heart related) his sats were running above 95, all the time. Not sure if it was fluid-related on what, since his x-rays were clear, but it resolved itself.

Thinking of you, and hoping you can get some resolution on the drug withdrawal issue.
