Ditching tubes!

Do you notice anything missing?

Dr. Moga removed Elijah's chest tubes this morning and wrapped up and taped his pacemaker wires to his belly just in case we need to access them. He said that he was very pleased with how E has done and that he felt he was ready for extubation today! Now we're just waiting for it all to fall into place and happen! He is still retaining a bit of fluid around his right lung, but we are PRAYING for him to tolerate it well and breathe just fine on his own.

I woke up this morning telling myself that I was just going to trust that God has this under control and that our wonderful doctors and nurses are His instruments and that all Dan and I have to do is care for our little Elijah as best we can! (btw, in the book "Walk on Water" that we're reading that Dr. M is in, he even acknowledges that he is merely an instrument of God and that it's not the surgeons who are behind all the work, even though most surgeons are egotistical enough to believe that. How cool is that?!)

p.s. Dr. Moga DENIED a picture with Elijah this morning! He said it was superstitious to take pictures with the surgeon before being on the way out of the hospital. I suppose I'll forgive him....but I felt like an idiot. Who denies pictures?!?!? Superstitious surgeons, I guess.

I must defend the man, the Moga-man. He didn't "deny" the picture, he merely has his system and he does pictures a little further along in recovery. He just postponed any photo ops for a little bit.

Lucky Hubby (of Hot, Wonderful Wifey/Mommy) and Father (of tough, strong boy).

ps. Hopefully we'll get a good pic of the Moga-smile. In that book Megan mentioned the author describes it like this, "it looks like he's sticking his finger into an electrical socket and liking it."

Yeah for no chest tubes!! Now let's get that breathing tube out!! In the previous message were you referring to Elijah having PVC's?? If so, Colin has them all the time!! I stare at the monitors and hate them but, have been assured by MANY dr's and nurses that they are OK!!

Guys...
I'm SO glad that he got the tubes out (while he was out!)...that's just one less thing to make him mad when he wakes up!
He really looks good. I hope that dieuretics help clear that fluid up and Mr. Elijah breathes like a champ today!!!
You guys sound SO GOOD in your posts...very optimistic and happy. I hope that's the case...because it sounds like your little man couldn't be in better hands (although you know I'm biased about our doc!)...and I know Elijah feels your love and strength!
HOPE you have the veggie tales dvd with you for when he wakes up!!!
Can't wait to hear how it all happens today! (I'm trying so hard not to call your room and bother you guys...just know i check on you a million times a day!!!)
Love to you all,
Kathy

Things are going so well! I can't wait to see him TUBE free and chewing on one of his crackers.

Everyone surrounding that little guy sounds so wonderful. You are definitely being supported with a loving and caring medical team. That's such a huge part in all of this.

We love you all. Keep bringing the good news!!!!

Wonderful news...that Elijah is a real trooper! I cannot believe how well he is doing!!! I am so happy for you all!

Elijah is looking great...I will pray for an easy extubation today and for that fluid to just get peed out already!

I have heard that the surgeons do have all their strange superstitions, so whatever makes them feel better so they can get our kiddos all fixed up! ;) Dr. Moga sounds just wonderful and I am glad that you all have him!

Lots of love!

Hi Megan,

I am so glad that Elijah continues to do so well! Wow! Chest tubes out already!!! I hope he's able to be extubated today, too. It'll be nice to see Elijah's precious smile again, even after he's been through so much! These heart babies never cease to amaze me....Emma's already crawling around again like a mad woman! :)

Take care and give him a gentle smooch from his heart friend with the kissy face! ;)

Lots of Love & Prayers,

Wendy (& Emma, too!)

How wonderful that those nasty chest tubes are out! Hopefully the extubation goes off without a hitch & the fluid goes where it should! I love what your surgeon said about being an instrument! Healing comes in so many forms & God uses any means possible for healing! Will continue praying & checking in on you to see how things are going!
