Wanting to wake up!

Our wonderful nurse Amy switched some pain/sedation meds around for Elijah this afternoon and he didn't like it too much. It apparently wasn't enough for him because he was mad and squirmy and trying to wake up. His blood pressure and heart rate went way up and he cried tiny little tears out the sides of his eyes. :( We finally got everything stabilized again with a good heaping EXTRA dose of morphine AND versed. He's loving the drugs right now! I asked if they could split the IV line and give some to Dan and me! Kidding.

Now we're chillin' again and just getting through the day, hoping that tomorrow is the big extubation day. We will trust Dr. Moga!

Thanks for checking in!

p.s. Yes Krista, he is intubated through the nose. That's all they've ever done to him here (except for the time last year when they had to reintubate quickly).

Hi Megan,

Praying that your little man continues to do well! We just got home about an hour ago and I wanted to check in on him. I'm glad to hear that he's doing pretty well. I hope he's able to be extubated tomorrow, and that they can find you a sleep room!!! I'm keeping you all in my prayers!

Lots of Love & Heart Hugs,

Wendy (& Emma, too!)

He looks as good as anyone can after open heart surgery! Its so hard to see our little one's on a vent, but know its the best way for their little bodies to rest & heal! I'm glad that the doc felt the same way as you about the extubation, better to be safe than sorry! We, too, have been through a re-intubation in the past & it isn't fun. Praying that all goes well 7 they are able to get him extubated tomorrow (if he's ready!). Take care & rest up...you'll need it for when you get home & he's back to full speed!

Heart Hugs!

I was going to ask you about the nose tube...I've never seen that. We always had the one in the mouth...hmmm..I'll have to ask about that! (I wonder which is more comfortable and what the difference is.) OK...just ask your sweet nurse for me!
We'll keep praying that tomorrow is your day. Have they taken any tubes out yet?? How many chest tubes does he have anyway??
I should just pick up the phone and call you...but, I never want to bother you...
Just know that we're always thinking about you guys....and I check your blog a million times a day...SO...THANKS FOR UPDATING it for us!!!
love,
kathy

Just checking in on you guys. Good job listening to your mother's intuition about extubating. Hope you find better sleeping arrangements tonight and that things go smoothly tomorrow.

That is wonderful news. Go the gut feeling is my moto. I don't really see what one more day of good solid rest can harm. I knew Dr. Moga was a smart man. Good luck with the sleeping arrangements tonight. I remember sleeping on the sofa chairs in that same waiting room. Remember to get on the list early. We will pray for a successful extubation.

Just wanted to say Hi! I have been thinking about you guys all day. My Mom goes to Holy Hour at Church every Thursday night - She called this morning to see how Eli was doing. I told her to pray extra hard that tomorrow goes well. She said she's on it! :-) After what we went through with Doug's cancer and my grandfather's dementia, I am convinced Mom has God on speed dial! :-)
Love and Hugs,
Tammy

He still looks great...I am still praying for you guys. I sure do wish there was a way to share the pain meds with the mommy & daddy...it sure would help with our pain.

Lots of love,
Samantha

Colin was intubated in his nose and then his mouth in Boston!! The dr's said the nose was more comfortable for him but, it all looks really annoying to me. Glad things are going well. Will pray for a successful extubation tomorrow!!

I've been checking on you guys since I received the blog link a while ago.

It's strange...I just went to read the first entry on this blog after reading your post today...you've come so far with this little guy!

Even then you talked about how strong he is...just remember, nothing has changed.

We'll keep checking on you to make sure all is well.
