Recovery has begun...

...and it's been a bit rocky for the past few hours. Elijah has had a high temp since coming out of surgery so we've been constantly trying to get it lowered. Especially now that his heart has decided to override the temporary pacemaker and beat at 210 beats per minute!! That is too high! They just gave him a medication for rhythm in hopes of lowering his heart rate, so right now we're looking at a 186 heart rate, which still isn't great but it's better than 210!

Poor kid, his body has just been through so much. We were told from many different doctors today that this surgery was a very big deal. Hopefully it will just take his body a while to adjust and that things will normalize soon. In the meantime, I might have heart problems myself! We had just eaten dinner before this all started to happen and now I'm wishing I wouldn't have because my tummy isn't feeling great.

It may be a long night. Please keep our man in your prayers tonight. Pray for a lower temp and a lower heart rate!

We do have pics but probably won't get them uploaded tonight.

Thank you for all of the wonderful comments! Elijah is so loved!!!

Ok, so I guess a few bumps are expected after such a huge surgery, right? i'm praying for peace for everyone, lower temps, slower heart rates (for everyone!) and a restful night.
and when i see you next I'll tell you the funny story of how my car broke down today on hwy 100 in afternoon rush hour with no phone. So look forward to that story!
And look forward to your litte guy getting better and better.

We are thinking of all of you. Sounds like they accomplished a lot in the OR. It will surely take some time for Elijah's heart and body to adjust. Hang in there. Best Wishes.

I knew there was a reason my tummy was hurting. I am praying hard and I know that our little warrior is going to fight through this...tell him that Micah's heart did that too after his surgery...it is so scary! Try to relax...where is that Xanax my friend? I will keep checking in on you...call me if you need me...I will be up late writing my paper that I should have finished ages ago.

Lots and lots and lots of love and prayers.

We've been praying for Elijah (and you guys too!) throughout the day. Jesus, calm the fears and pour out your amazing peace - right now on Elijah and his sweet little heart and also on mom and dad.

Tonight at bedtime, without any prompting, Kayla looked at me and said, "pay Eee-i-aa" which interpreted means "pray Elijah". It was so cute and of course we stopped and prayed together!

We love you guys - hang in there, one day at a time.

Sorry to hear about the temp and heart rate...but, once they get that temp down, the rate will go down. Isaac had an unknown temp for 2 weeks...he liked it when we put a cook washcloth on his forehead..just spoiled rotten! He had the cooling blanket under his bum and the cloth on his head...like a little prince. Don't worry too much about the temp yet...they never found the cause of Isaac's...maybe it's just the shock of surgery on their little bodies and that's how they react.
You're in good hands.
hope he settles down for you guys so that you can get some sleep.
we'll keep the prayers coming!

Hoping this is just a temporary setback and that things start to improve by tomorrow. The first couple of days can be pretty rocky, OHS is no joke! I'll be keeping Elijah in my thoughts and prayers.

I think the first few days after OHS can be a little unpredictable. I am praying that his heart rate & fever goes down and that you all have some peace. Hang in there!

I'm praying for you here, Elijah. And, for Mama and Papa, too. You all have come a long way. Everything will be OK...just like Mama said. Soon, we'll see that flirty face again ;)

We are saying lots of prayers. Sine it is late here I am hoping that he is already feeling better. Elijah - give your mommy and daddyba break. They need to get some rest. Hang in there. Gracie says, "I love you Eli!!" that would make him behave. He doesn't want the pretty girl to worry about him.

Lots of love and prayers for all of you!

Try to get some rest. Elijah needs you both strong and awake. No zombies! I will have my toddler class pray for ya'll today. As many others have said, the first 24 hours is tough after OHS. He is going to break the fever. Trust in the lord and remember you are all very loved. Heart baby parents are inspirational! Take care of each other.

No matter what I try at the gym, I can't get my heart rate anywhere close to that!! When Eli gets sprung from the hospital, I will have to pull him aside and ask him how he pulled that trick?!? In the meantime, many prayers that the fever and the heart rate hit the breaks! Thanks for taking the time to update us all...hoping to hear more and more good news!

Thinking about your family often. Remember prayers change things and we are praying for Elijah's little body to become calmer and for a quick recovery.

I'm sure the fever & heart rate are just his body reacting to the trauma its been put through. I know that many post-op patients run fevers for no aparent reason, just from the trauma & if anything foreign has been introduced! Praying that things level off to more of a normal level. Keep your heads up, Elijah will come through this with flying colors!
